  1. The Pill is the commonly used term for the 
  2. CONTRACEPTIVE pill, based on female hormones. 
  3. The combined pill, which contains synthetic 
  4. hormones similar to oestrogen and 
  5. progesterone, stops the production of eggs, 
  6. and makes the mucus produced by the cervix 
  7. hostile to sperm. It is the most effective 
  8. form of contraception apart from 
  9. sterilization, but can also cause 
  10. side-effects, ie: stress, deppresion etc.
